I am trying to fund my 401K as much as I can and since I have 15-20 years to retire I am in the higher risk plans and watching carefully. The key is to diversify but since I am just starting, I am going with higher risk first. Other sources of passive income can be your own business, rental property, Tbills, and anything that brings in interest income. The 401K (especially with employer match) is tax free so that gives you more to work with than after tax money.
